Alan Walter Havighurst, age 68, died peacefully on February 17, 2014, at Ahuja Medical Center five days after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
A long-time resident of Shaker Heights, Alan became a teacher at his beloved alma mater, University School, after graduating from Amherst College. He then ventured into law after attending University of Cincinnati law school, specializing in taxation.
Alan was a people person in the finest sense of the word, and truly cherished old friends in particular. He served as Class Agent for Amherst College and was equally active at University School in fundraising and reunion-planning. He was a treasure trove of information about the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians, loved writing poetry in English and Latin, cinematography, debating current events, and enjoyed his membership at the Skating Club.
Alan was the beloved son of the late James W. and Helen Beetham Havighurst. He was the dear brother of Douglas A. Havighurst (Esther Neumann)of Chardon, OH and the late Bruce Havighurst (Barbara Corell). He is survived by his significant other Martha C. Lee of Cleveland, OH and former wife, Dr. Julie Morse Havighurst of Cleveland, and nephew Bryan (Diane) of Loveland, Ohio and niece Lauren Tackett (Jeffrey) of Centreville, VA. He also leaves many dear friends.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, March 1st at 1 P.M. in Lake View Cemetery, Cleveland, Ohio.
Immediately following the service, a reception will be held at Nighttown Restaurant, 12387 Cedar Rd., Cleveland Hts., OH.
