Albert Dwight Findlay was a pioneer in many different ways, starting at a very young age. At age 5, Al was one of the very first youths, at his age, to undergo open heart surgery from the world famous cardiologists at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio, Kay and Cross, to repair a hole in his heart that he had from birth.
From his youth, he was very active in baseball, a sport that he followed always, and attended numerous Cleveland Browns football games with his Dad and brothers. His family has continued to hold season tickets to the Cleveland Browns since 1948, and other than the 1964 World Championship Game that Cleveland won, and that Albert attended, has suffered with all of the other Browns fans for the past 50 years.
One of Albert's early loves was singing. He became very involved with the Acapella choirs in junior high and high school. Yet, he was able to take that skill to a new level with his love for the ministry of music. He had continued to perform singing for numerous Christian faith organizations, and was always very well received.
Al was a Math Major in college, and for those that knew him, knew that he was very good with numbers and remembering the most obscure dates and times.
Al was a member of Toastmasters of Sarasota, Fl and thoroughly enjoyed his experience over the years. He was the Toastmaster at their last meeting, and championed a very successful meeting. Toastmasters gave him the confidence to do things that he would have never been able to do before.
His employer, Publix, was a wonderful employer for Al. He said that Publix made him a better person, and what more can you ask for.
But, most importantly for Albert was his Love and Faith in Jesus Christ. He knew that Jesus Christ was his Savior, and lived his life accordingly. Al had a very strong and vast church family in Sarasota. His church activities, prayer groups, bible study groups, and church life is what Al lived for. He came to accept the fate that was given to him by Jesus Christ, and is now safely home with his mother and father, all of his relatives before him, and of course, the Lord!
