ALBERT J. WEATHERHEAD III Albert J. Weatherhead III, 86, unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 after a brief battle with cancer and pneumonia. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, colleague and mentor, he will be dearly missed. He devoted his life to his family, business and philanthropic endeavors. He would hold the institutions accountable to the foundation and cause them to use the funds in creative pursuits. He is survived by his wife Celia, his children Dwight Jill Weatherhead, Michael and Mary Feldman Steve Feldman, and five grandchildren. He was a competitive swimmer at University School. Upon graduation from University School, Al enlisted in the army immediately where he served during World War II 1943-46 and then again in the Korean War 1951. He graduated from Harvard University in 1950 and attended the Harvard Business School. He was best known as a dynamic industrialist and major philanthropist. While extraordinarily successful in life, he knew that everyone experiences adversity. He thought of adversity not as a curse, but as a gift. He is best remembered for his quote "Don't ask 'Why me?' Ask 'Why not me?" Al was a "life changer" in that he changed people's lives through his love, generosity, unwavering support, loyalty and wisdom. He enjoyed a terrific mind, a fabulous sense of humor and tremendous determination. He was a great optimist, survivor, leader and motivator and made people believe that no goal was too audacious. He lived his life that way and he expected the same from others.
