Alfred Corrado

June 27, 1927 — July 24, 2010

Alfred G. Corrado, age 83, died July 24th, 2010. Al was the beloved husband of Inez B. Corrado nee Brinsfield of Shaker Hts., Ohio. He was the dear father of Mark W. Corrado Natasha of Shaker Hts., OH, Jane C Biggar William V. of Chagrin Falls, OH and Ann E. Corrado of Cleveland Hts., OH. He was the dear grandfather of Allison Biggar, Megan Fulton Sam, Sarah Biggar and William V. Biggar, Jr. Al was a World War II US Army veteran, traveling around Europe as an MC in soldier shows. He was the former chairman and chief executive officer of Leading Lady, Inc., an intimate apparel manufacturer. He has worked for the privately-owned family business since 1952, starting as sales manager upon graduation from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Commerce. Leading Lady was founded in 1939 by his father, Frank G. Farino. The company was officially established when Mr. Farino accepted two sewing machines in lieu of vacation pay and purchased the existing inventory when the Cleveland bra fitter who employed him went out of business. Mr. Farino branched into maternity intimate apparel out of necessity. During World War II, fabric rationing led to a shortage of raw materials for intimate apparel products except for maternity/nursing bras, which were considered medical items. The onset of the baby boomer era in the 1950s and 1960s tremendously increased the demand for maternity apparel. As that generation matured, another mini-boom occurred. With research findings and recommendations from the medical community supporting breast-feeding, the demand for maternity and nursing bras continues to be strong today. In addition to his duties at Leading Lady, Al was involved in various real estate interests and owned thoroughbred horses for more than 45 years. He had many good horses over the years, starting with his first one, Cleaburn, in 1964. Winged Brook, Waitinginthewings, R Barney Google, Star of the Night, Cut the Cuteness, Dynamite Lass and In Perpetuity are among the best of them. Dynamite Lass has three foals and one of them, Hildegard, by Horse of the Year Ghostzapper, is now in training. He raced his thoroughbreds in Ohio, Florida, New York and Kentucky. Al was a past president of the Ohio Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders. He was involved with Ohio University in many ways, among them being on the board of the Ohio University Foundation. He was a devoted husband, father and grand-father who so valued the time he spent with family and friends. The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in his name to the Animal Protective League, 1729 Willey Ave., Cleveland, OH 44113 or to Christ Episcopal Church, 3445 Warrensville Center Rd., Shaker Hts., OH 44122, where a Memorial Service will be held, Friday, July 30th at 11 AM. Family interment services will be held in Lake View Cemetery. BROWN-FORWARD SERVICE 216 752-1200
