Allan M. Spencer

Dr. Allan M, Spencer 93, passed away on March 17th 2024.


Dr. Spencer was born outside of Grove City, Pennsylvania to Irvin and Mae Spencer on November 17th 1930.  He was brother to Jean Plimpton (nee Spencer) who proceeded him in death.  Dr. Spencer graduated from Grove City College in 1952.  While attending Grove City College he met his future wife Mary Ellen Spencer (nee Songer).  Upon graduating he entered the United States Army and served two years during the Korean conflict.

 

After his service to his country Dr. Spencer attended the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine (now the Kent State University of Podiatric Medicine) graduating in 1958 as the valedictorian of his class.  Dr. Spencer then went on to start a private practice while also teaching at the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine.  He continued in this role for 39 years educating thousands of doctors of Podiatric Medicine.  He served as the President of the American College of Podiatric Orthopedics.  Dr. Spencer is and inductee into the Hall of Fame for the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine for his immense contributions to the college and the field of Podiatry.

 

Dr. Spencer is survived by his wife of 69 years Mary Ellen Spencer (nee Songer), his sons Robert Spencer, Dr. Scott Spencer and his daughter in law Carey Spencer (nee Kuhn).


Dr. Spencer enjoyed a good round of golf and hunting for golf balls others had lost.  He possessed a dry sense of humor and enjoyed listening to comedy albums and comedy TV shows.  Dr. Spencer enjoyed interacting with his patients and treating them with compassion and dignity.

 

A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 25th at 2:00 PM at the Church of the Savior, 2537 Lee Road, Cleveland Hts., OH 44118.


Interment of Dr. Spencer’s ashes to follow.
