Ann Kahn

Ann L. Kahn nee Thomas age 76 of Shaker Hts., OH. Ann Thomas Kahn passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 4, 2011 after a two year illness. She was born on June 28, 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Charles I. Thomas, professor of ophthalmology at Case Western Reserve University and founding medical director of the Cleveland Eye Bank, her mother, Gertrude Howard Thomas and her sister, Gwyneth Thomas. Ann graduated from Hathaway Brown School in 1953 and received her BA in history from Vassar College, Poukeepsie, New York in 1957. She was an avid reader and continued her interest in history and the world around her throughout her life. In 1958, Ann married Vernon R. Loucks, and together they lived in Boston, Chicago and California before moving to Europe in 1968. Their son, Charles Vernon Loucks was born in 1961 and son David Burton Loucks was born in 1966. Ann moved to Switzerland in 1969 and raised her two sons in the towns of Zermatt and Gstaad. An avid mountain climber, Ann summited the Matterhorn in Zermatt in August, 1970. Ann returned to Cleveland in 1976 where she lived for the remainder of her life; however, she returned to Switzerland every year to ski and visit friends until 2010. Ann lived a life filled with love and devotion to her family and many friends. She was the loving, caring wife to Thomas Fisher Kahn, whom she married in 1980. An avid cook, she enjoyed entertaining and preparing beautiful meals for her family and friends. She and Tom enjoyed traveling and took frequent trips throughout the country to be with their children and grandchildren. They also enjoyed annual trips to France in the fall and to Switzerland every winter. A loyal and caring friend, Ann will be remembered for her genuine interest in the lives of many whom she touched. She was a contributor to many Cleveland area cultural, education and arts organizations and a dedicated volunteer at the Cleveland Art Museum and, in her earlier years, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. She was a member of St. PaulÕs Episcopal Church, the Cleveland Art Museum, the University Hospitals and a subscriber to the Cleveland Symphony. Her ashes will be taken to Switzerland and spread on her favorite ski trail. AnnÕs husband Tom, and sons Charlie and David would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all of the wonderful healthcare providers at University Hospitals who embraced Ann with love and provided exceptional care. Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand. Ann was the loving wife of Thomas F. Kahn. She is also survived by her two sons, Charles V. Loucks Patricia of Tiburon, CA and David B. Loucks Anne of Winnetka, IL. She was a dear stepmother to Thomas F. Kahn, Jr Anne of Indianapolis, IN, Dr. Mark A. Kahn Julie of Indianapolis, IN and Stephen R. Kahn Robin of Atlanta, GA. She was also the dear friend and former wife of Vernon R. Loucks Linda of Lake Forest, IL. Ann was the grandmother of Olivia, John, Chaz, Christopher, Spencer and Alexandra. She was a step-grandmother to Kevin, Brian, Andrew, Madelyn, Katheryn, Christopher, Carter, Lilly and Carson. The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions, in memory of Ann Kahn, to the University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center, 11100 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44114. Please, no flowers. A tribute to Ann's life will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at Kirtland Country Club, 39438 Kirtland Road, Willoughby, Ohio. The tribute will start promptly at 4pm.
