Ann McConnell (nee Hitchcock), beloved mother, grandmother and friend, died peacefully on March 11, 2022.
She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on February 17, 1927 to Lawrence Hitchcock and Helen C. Hitchcock.
She was educated at Laurel School, Madeira School and Smith College.
She married Frederick McConnell, Jr. in 1954, and raised four children with him. She was a devoted mother who loved volunteering at her children's schools, including serving as President of the Malvern P.T.A. After raising her children, she returned to school and became a classroom teacher, first teaching Pre-K at Hathaway Brown School and then initiating the school's first lower school computer program.
She also volunteered at the Holden Arboretum, served on the board of the Children's Museum of Cleveland, and for many years served on the vestry of St. Hubert's Episcopal Church. She is survived by her children, F. Stevens McConnell (Elizabeth) , Elizabeth Hoops ( Robert), David McConnell (Darrell Crawford), James McConnell (William Atmore) and eight devoted grandchildren.
