On August 7, 2024, Audrey C. Morris (age 63) of Shaker Heights, OH passed away embraced by her family and surrounded by love. The beloved wife of Michael G. Morris, loving mother of Andrew M. Morris of Cleveland Heights and Jane F. Morris of Washington, DC, daughter of Audrey F. Hinckel of Shrub Oak, NY and the late John F. Hinckel, and dear sister of Jeanine F. Hinckel of Pound Ridge, NY, Audrey led a remarkable life full of energy, intelligence, and humor.
Born in New York City, Audrey’s childhood and early life were anchored to Manhattan, where she exercised her many creative talents and met her husband, Michael. She worked as a writer, a managing editor, and Art Director for a variety of print publications, including Photo District News (PDN) and a boutique magic magazine, Magic Towne House, the source of many fantastical workplace stories shared with laughter among family and friends.
Later she moved to Boston, MA, where she earned a B.A. in economics at Harvard University. Audrey was a passionate advocate and champion of public causes. Her career spanned several nonprofits, including the Women’s Institute for Economic Progress in Boston where she worked to secure affordable housing for women and children with AIDS. In Cleveland, she joined the League of Women Voters where she dedicated many years to supporting and defending voter rights. She served as Treasurer and Board First Vice President of the League of Women Voters of Ohio (2021-2023), Co-President and Vice President of the League of Women Voters of Greater Cleveland (2017-2021), and Shaker Heights Chapter Chair (2015-2017). She also served on the Community Advisory Councils of the Flora Stone Mather Center for Women at Case Western Reserve University, and the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Area (NOACA).
Audrey’s devotion to her family and her children was her greatest pride and she leaves behind a wealth of cherished memories. Her artistic sensibilities, sweeping intellect, and culinary abilities were the privileges of friends and family alike, who marveled at Audrey’s generosity of spirit and care for those she loved. Audrey held fast to the knowledge that life’s greatest rewards would be found through hard work, love and dedication to what is true and right, and in her actions embodied that belief and achieved its promise. Now, with her passing, she leaves that great work to the living, who will find the same happiness and success that she enjoyed in her life.
