Barbara Oldenburg

Barbara Stevens Oldenburg, 86, died peacefully April 1, 2014 at Judson Park in Cleveland, Ohio. Buster was born Barbara Alcey Stevens June 17, 1927 in Akron, Ohio to Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Bolles Stevens. She graduated from Western Reserve University in 1949 and married Robert Louis Oldenburg, her husband of almost 65 years.

Buster was always devoted to her family and to the welfare of other people, especially seniors. She worked as a social worker for the Cleveland International Program, Hiram House Camp, and the Cleveland Heights Office on Aging. Volunteering to help the elderly became her passion and she served on the boards of Access for the Arts, Benjamin Rose Institute, Golden Age Centers of Cleveland, Judson Retirement Community, and the McGregor Foundation. In Washington DC in 1975, she was honored by President Ford as a National Volunteer Activist Award Winner. She received the Frances Payne Bolton Award for professional achievement from the Junior League and the 1992 Humanitarian Award for Distinction from Case Western Reserve University.

She is survived by her beloved husband Bob; her 3 children daughter Sallie and Jess Adams of Sacramento, CA, daughter Julie and Guy Bramble of Oklahoma City, OK, and son Robert and Lee Oldenburg of Greenfield, MA; her 7 grandchildren William, Henry and Barbara Adams; Kristen (Jay Ferguson) and Jamie Bramble (Kathryn); Hannah (fiancé 1Lt. Joseph Dokken) and Madeleine Oldenburg and 3 great grandchildren Westley, Layne and Finn. She is also survived by brother-in-law Alfred and Josette Oldenburg, sisters-in-law Chloe and Dorothy Oldenburg and multiple cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Donations may be made to Benjamin Rose Institute 11890 Fairhill Rd, Cleveland, OH 44120 or Golden Age Centers 12200 Fairhill Rd, Cleveland, OH 44120. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2747 Fairmount Blvd., Cleveland Hts., OH 44106 on Tuesday, April 8th at 4 PM. Interment at St. Paul's Columbarium.
