Barbara Watson

December 10, 1935 — November 6, 2010

BARBARA A. WATSON nee Dietrich Age 74, formerly of Mayfield, OH, died November 6th, 2010. Barbara raised her 5 children, Richard A. of Slavic Village, OH; Robert A. of Newburg Hts., OH; Pamela A. of Chardon, OH; Paula A. of Chesterland, OH; Veronica A. of Parkman, OH and sadly lost her daughter, the late Victoria A., while raising 4 children as a nanny over the course of about 24 yrs. She loved music, art, especially American art pottery and Native American works. Barbara collected pottery since she was a young adult and had a booth at Aunties Antique Mall. She read and read and read, voraciously, and developed in her daughter, Veronica, the love of literature. In recent years, she and the youngest son that she nannied shared an interest in the local author Les Roberts. She loved looking for fossils in rocks, visiting the oldest cemeteries and pouring over old photos of people, relishing the history of the forgotten ones, the underdogs. She made the best Easter baskets and dozens and dozens of Christmas cookies every year. She also took care of the elderly as a part time job after her retirement. She loved resale shops & scratch-off lottery tickets! Barbara was very sensitive but learned to endure the bitterness of some of the difficult and tragic experiences she experienced. She did not realize or was unable to believe in the love that she generated towards her, by the people whose lives she so richly touched. This quote from Maya Angelou, catches the essence of what Barbara tried to teach her family, the children in her care and how she conducted her own life... "Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends." Barbara was also the dear grandmother of Andrew J. and dear sister of Lee Dietrich Willa of IL; Sue A. Houghton Paul of San Jose, CA and Louise Starling of Atwater, OH. The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in her name to Cowan Pottery Museum Associates, PO Box 16765, Rocky River, OH 44116. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, NOVEMBER 20TH, at 1:30 pm at BROWN-FORWARD, 17022 CHAGRIN BLVD., SHAKER HTS., OH, WHERE FRIENDS MAY CALL ONE-HALF HOUR PRIOR TO THE SERVICE. BROWN-FORWARD SERVICE 216 752-1200
