Betty Anne Baskin (nee Meyer) age 90 peacefully passed away at her home on October 15, 2013. Loving wife of 23 years to the late John R. Baskin, attorney at Baker & Hostetler LLP, stepmother of Barbara Baskin (John Breckenridge), daughter of William and the late Monica, dear Aunt of Carolyn Meyer (Michael Prussian), Frederick (Julie), John Grabner (Kathy), Catherine Meyer-White (Barney White), Monica Meyer (Mark Bidelman), William John (Catherine), Sherry, and the late Heidi and Thomas Grabner and Great Aunt to thirteen nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her brother Frederick J. and is preceded in death by her sister, Monica Meyer Grabner and brother, John H.
Her grandfather founded the Meyer Diary in Cleveland and her father owned the Cleveland Brick and Clay Company, responsible for paving many of the brick streets in Cleveland.
After graduating from the Flora Stone Mather College of Western Reserve University in 1947, she entered the Western Reserve Law School and graduated second in her class and she is the last surviving member of that class. Betty started her own law firm with her sister Monica as her assistant and eventually was a founding partner of the firm Knecht, Rees, Meyer, Mekedis & Shumaker. She practiced law for 63 years.
Betty will be greatly missed by her dear friends Eveline and Michael McElroy and family, Eleonore and Dieter Kanauf, Ann Bourton and her four daughters Lara, Anita, Audrey, and Michelle, and many other friends too numerous to mention. And who will forget the kiss on each cheek?
Betty was a woman of passion. Whatever the endeavor she would strive to be the very best. She traveled the world for pleasure and for her interest in genealogy. She especially enjoyed meeting new friends in her favorite countries Ireland and Germany. The many people who came into Betty's life were blessed with her generosity and kindness. Betty was a voracious shopper and could never pass up "a deal". She loved fresh orange juice and champagne (sometimes together), chocolate and ice cream (sometimes together). She was a very proud woman who would make anyone's best dressed list, always looking glamorous. Betty collected classical music and artwork from her many travels. Her wild birds will miss their feeders from being constantly full with food.
She contributed to many religious and civic organizations in Cleveland and throughout the world.
The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in her name to The Church of St. Dominic, 19000 Van Aken Blvd., Shaker Hts., OH 44122 or The American Heart Association, PO Box 15120, Chicago, IL, 60693.
A funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Crown Hill Cemetery, 8592 Darrow Rd., Twinsburg, OH, Saturday, October 19th at 10 AM.
