Beverly Gray Higley was born in Chicago on November 23, 1933 and passed away at her Chagrin Falls residence, July 14th, 2014. She was the daughter of Wallace Taylor Gray and Jessie Oliphant Gray, and the younger sister of John Gray. She grew up in Rutherford, NJ and later Haddonfield, NJ where she attended Haddonfield Memorial High School.
After graduating in 1951 she attended Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA where she was a member of Phi Mu sorority. She graduated from Bucknell in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Finance.
On June 25, 1955 Bev married Albert Maltby Higley, Jr., who she had met after her family had moved to Cleveland in 1952. They had three children: Sharon Ann (1956); Bruce Gray (1957); and Brian Maltby (1961). The family resided in Shaker Heights until 1990 when Bev and Al moved to Pepper Pike. For many years they split their time between there and a residence in Hilton Head, SC where they spent many wonderful years. In 2009 they moved to South Franklin Circle in Chagrin Falls.
Bev, who was an accomplished needlepointer and knitter, was very active in her churches including having served as Pastoral Care Coordinator at Christ Episcopal Church in Shaker Heights. She was an active member of the Junior League of Cleveland, volunteered for many years at the Society for Crippled Children (today's Achievement Centers for Children), and served on the Board of Trustees of the Cleveland Sight Center.
Most of all Bev was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was an extraordinary human being who lived her life with great integrity, dignity and grace, and left everyone she touched better off for having known her.
She was the dear grandmother of Katherine, Carolyn and Andrew Watts; Jennifer, Christopher, Peter and Daniel Higley and sister of the late John Gray and dear aunt of Elizabeth Wyatt (Jack).
