Beverly Lewis

December 23, 1920 — March 19, 2012

Beverly was born in Albion, Michigan on December 23, 1920. She moved to Ohio with her parents and younger sister Marilyn and graduated from Shaker Heights High School in 1938. She then pursued her higher education at the University of Rochester where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, graduating in 1942. While on desk duty at her dormitory, the Kenyon mens' swim team approached looking for dates. Her beautiful red hair and kind smile caught the attention of one member, William Lewis. The two danced the evening away and were married September 12, 1942. Beverly put her college education to use working as a chemist at Lubrizol and Chase Brass and Copper. She continued to work until she started her family in 1948. Beverly was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother . She was thrilled when she became a great grandmother better known as GiGi to two great grandsons. Bev's greatest joy in life was her family. A positive presence in her daughters' lives, she was an involved parent in the PTA, a Brownie Scout Leader, and a tireless advocate for her daughters. As a grandmother she never missed a birthday or performance no matter where her four grandchildren were located. At home, she was a gracious hostess and a superb cook, however, her guests may best remember her as a card shark, particularly in bridge. Beverly was also a force to be reckoned with when it came to mind and board games - a skill she passed on to her daughters and grandchildren. She and Bill took great pleasure in traveling, including many family beach trips and touring Europe. Beverly lost Bill in 2000. Bev's greatest attribute was her kind heart. From family, to friends, to acquaintances, everyone she interacted with felt truly loved and appreciated. Beverly was generous with her time and heart. She listened with patience and kindness and gave thoughtful advice. Those who knew her also her enjoyed her wit, sense of humor and determination. Bev read for pleasure and knowledge and enjoyed discussing current events as well as being an avid Indians fan. She was an active participant at Rose Institute of Life Long Learning of Menorah Park. Bev will be greatly missed. The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in her name to The Rose Institute of Life Long Learning, c/o The Menorah Park Foundation, 27100 Cedar Rd., Beachwood, OH 44122. Bev was the dear mother of Linda A. Lewis Olle Appelberg of Stockholm, Sweden, Diane E. Lewis and Sally K. Whalen, both of Mayfield Hts., OH and Wendy L. Riek Thierry of Moreland Hills, OH; dear grandmother of Jennifer A. Mauger David, Jessica Whalen, Ashley Hall and William Hall; great grandmother of Patrick and Vincent Mauger. A family entombment service will be held in Knollwood Cemetery. FRIENDS MAY CALL AT BROWN-FORWARD, 17022 CHAGRIN BLVD., SHAKER HTS., OH THURSDAY, MARCH 22 FROM 5-7PM.
