Beverly Norwood

Mr. Norwood, 66, of Cleveland, OH died peacefully in his sleep on September 4, 2013 in the Horvitz Palliative Center of the Cleveland Clinic. His wife, Bernie, his sister-in-law Jane Norwood and Father Deogratis Ruwaainenyi were with him at the time of his death.

Bev was born in Oxford, NC on August 22, 1947 as the third son of the late Dr. Ballard Norwood and Gwendolyn Wheeler Norwood. He graduated from Wake Forest College in Winston Salem, NC with a BA degree.

Bev joined the Winston Salem Journal as a sports reporter covering golf, college football and basketball and also the Carolina Cougars of the American Basketball Association. During this period of his life he started his participation as a member of the media at each of the four major golf championships and started a long and continuous annual attendance at The Masters, The US Open, The Open (British), and the US PGA.

Bev later joined Cleveland based International Management Group (IMG) in their London office working on the magazine Golf International. He was later assigned to the New York office where he worked and lived there until he was assigned to the Cleveland office. During his tenure at IMG he was primarily responsible for the publication of annual books for the major golf championships and also he later worked on books for The Ryder Cup and The Presidents Cup, and also IMG's annual book: The World of Professional Golf. During this time he covered more than 135 major golf championships.

Mr. Norwood is survived by his wife, Bernie, nee Bernadette Horgan, his beloved Corgi companion Tegan, brothers and sisters-in-law Ballard and Jane of Charlotte, NC; and Richard and Virginia of Orlando, FL and nephew Ryan Norwood and wife Kris of Las Vegas, NV and niece Megan Ellis and husband Kerry of Orlando, FL, sister-in-law Patricia Horgan, Cork, Ireland, brother-in-law David and wife Judy Horgan of London, UK, and several great nieces and nephews. The family prefers that those who wish make contributions in his name to the Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies, 83 West Miller St., Orlando, FL 32806. A Funeral Mass will be held at Communion of Saints Parish (St. Ann Church) 2175 Coventry Rd., Cleveland Hts., OH Wednesday, September 11th at 10 AM. FRIENDS MAY CALL AT BROWN-FORWARD, 17022 CHAGRIN BLVD., SHAKER HTS., OH 44120 ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10TH FROM 7-9 PM.
