Carolyn Horsburgh, aged 63, of DeLand, FL passed away peacefully from a brief illness on October 9, 2014.
She grew up in Shaker Heights and was the beloved special needs daughter of the late Donald F. and Elaine N. Horsburgh of Shaker Heights and Naples FL, sister of Joan H. Ainsworth (Dick) of Bratenahl, Diane Elaine Thompson of Naples FL, and the late James N. Horsburgh of Cleveland Heights. She is also survived by eight nieces and nephews.
For 28 years Carolyn lived with her DeLand "family:" Debbie Maddox, Karen Malony, and Frances Swanbeck at a private group home. She loved life and everyone she met. She was a Special Olympics gold medalist in swimming, bowling and equestrian sports. She was a member of the Faith Riders, where she rode horses as well as participated in daily activities needed for the care of horses and other farm animals. She loved traveling with her family and friends, especially on cruises.
Carolyn was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service celebrating her life was held in DeLand on October 18, 2014, and there will be a private family burial in Cleveland.
