DAYTON, OHIO – Catherine Mason Lane, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend died on November 11, 2024 after a brief battle with cancer. There will be a family-only service at a later date.

Cathy was born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin on March 14, 1948 to Beatrice Josephine Mason and Edward Gerard Mason. She graduated from McDonnell Central Catholic High School and the University of Wisconsin. After college, she was a preschool teacher in Denver, Colorado before marrying Raymond William Lane in 1975. They spent time in Dayton, Ohio, Flossmoor, Illinois, and Atlanta, Georgia before settling back in Dayton in 1984. During that time, they had two sons, Timothy and Michael, and one daughter, Diane.

Cathy raised her three children in Dayton and spent time supporting their school and sports at St. Albert’s and Alter High School. Her three children followed Ray to the University of Notre Dame where she enjoyed hosting tailgates on football weekends in South Bend. More recently, Cathy loved spending time with her seven grandchildren, William (14), Wilson (13), TJ (13), Catherine (13), Drew (11), George (10) and Everett (8). They affectionately called her “Cici” and they loved spending time with her on beach vacations and ski trips out West. She was also an avid tennis player, loved dogs her entire life, and enjoyed traveling, especially her recent trips to Europe. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Raymond William Lane; son Michael Flury Lane (Lisa) of Shaker Heights, Ohio and daughter Diane Lane Walsh (Charlie) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; by her daughter-in-law Lori Lane of Franklin, Tennessee; by her sisters Judith Stella of Fort Worth, Texas and Suzanne White of St. Paul, Minnesota; and by her brother Jim Mason of St. Paul, Minnesota. Her son, Timothy Mason Lane, pre-deceased her in 2011.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the University of Notre Dame, Dept. of Development, 1100 Grace Hall, Notre Dame, Indiana 46556 and directed to the Timothy Mason Lane Scholarship Fund.
