Catherine Murphy Wilde, PhD, 72, of Hudson, OH died on Thursday, June 23, 2010 at Akron City Hospital. Catherine was born on March 15, 1938 to George and Isabel Murphy in Litchfield, CT. She was the third of four daughters and her sisters were Dorothy, Rose Mary and Betty Ann. Catherine graduated from Elmira College in 1962 and went to work in New York City as an economic research assistant and for Conn. General. On September 9, 1962 she married John H. Wilde. The couple moved to Washington D.C. where Catherine worked as a researcher for the Congressional Quarterly. Catherine and John had four children: Margaret, Barbara, Elisabeth and John. The family moved to Hudson, OH in 1970. After her children were all in school, Catherine also returned to school and earned a MS and PhD in Psychology from Kent State University in her forties. She worked as a psychologist with the Cleveland Clinic and then with Kaiser Permanente until her retirement in 2006. Catherine enjoyed a very active retirement playing tennis 3 times/week, golfing with her husband John, taking yoga classes, working with the Summit County Emergency Medical Team as needed and especially spoiling her 8 grandchildren. Catherine is survived by her husband John H. Wilde of Hudson, OH, her four children; Margaret Frey Craig of Ithaca, NY, Barbara Edmonds Kent of Hudson, OH, Elisabeth Mendicino James of Charlotte, NC and John Wilde Edua of Somerville, MA, her 8 grandchildren; Kathryn, Kyle, Peter, Michael, Sophie, Anthony, Gia and Jane and her sister Elizabeth. The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in her name to Kent State University c/o Department of Psychology, 318-B Kent Hall, Kent, OH 44242. Memorial Services will be held at Barlow Community Center, 41 S. Oviatt Street, Hudson Across from Hudson Police Station on MONDAY, JUNE 28 AT 10:30 AM.
