Charles S. Evans, age 71, died peacefully at his home in Cleveland, Ohio, on August 23, 2020. The son of Myron and Lois (Hall) Evans, Charles was a life-long student of philosophy, attending classes at Hiram College and Case Western Reserve University.
He dedicated his life to helping his family and friends and to writing poetry. Mary Oliver, well-known American poet, selected one of his poems for publication in the Case Western Reserve Review.
Charles was a devoted brother and uncle and will be greatly missed by his sister, Helen Fernald, her husband Frederick and their children Sara and Alex.
Donations in Charles' memory may be made to Hiram College Development Office, PO Box 67, Hiram, Ohio 44234.
In one of his final poems, Charles wrote,
“One must be born anew
And not be forlorn
At the gathering of the years.
Knowing that when
Our body drops away,
It is the nature of weightless things,
Like the soul to rise Heavenward,
Like some immortal bird.
Sans feathers, sans wings, sans everything but God.”
