Charles Taylor

Charles and Nancy Rodger were married in August, 1943 in Colorado Springs during Charles' service in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Just a few months after their marriage, he was sent overseas to Africa, the Middle East and Europe with the 19th Photo mapping Squadron. He was an aircraft maintenance officer for the B-17s used for the aerial photography. When he returned from the service in 1946, Charles worked for the Otto Konigslow Manufacturing Company, a metal fabrication firm. He eventually became president during his thirty-five years of service for the company. Charles was a board member at his college, Tri-State University now Trine University, where he was interested in improving the campus buildings and in scholarship funds. He had worked his way through the small college, and he and Nancy enjoyed seeing the Indiana school grow. Tri-State University awarded him an honorary Doctor of Engineering in 1992. He was also a member of the Cleveland Engineering Society and on the board of the YMCA. Charles graduated from West High School, Cleveland, in 1934. He then attended Tri-State University, class of 1936, to study mechanical engineering. After college he worked at White Motors and Skully Steel in Cleveland before joining the army. He also took courses at the former Case Institute of Technology. He was born in Newton, Massachusetts and spent his early years in Wellesley, where his father was the dentist for Wellesley College. Later, the family moved to Cleveland to be with his mother's family. He continued to maintain sentimental ties to New England and had happy memories of the cottage where he spent summers on Caspian Lake, Vermont. Charles and Nancy enjoyed both their home and their travels together. They explored Europe, visited Nancy's family in Scotland and for many years spent the winter months in Funchal, Madeira. He is survived by his two children, Nancy T. Schreiner Terry of Pepper Pike, OH and Charles "Rod" Taylor, just recently of Shaker Hts., OH, grandsons, Blaine Leslie, Taylor Tess and Charles Schreiner, and his niece, Margo Russell David. ... ... ... ... extra thoughts... ... ... ... ... from Rod and Nancy We are grateful for... ....... Tri-State friends who shared friendship and enthusiasm for the college. Our loving parents...
