DEZSO J. LADANYI, PhD, died March 12th, 2013. Dr. Dezso J. Ladanyi was a teacher at Fenn now Cleveland State University for over 25 years. He loved being a teacher. He found it rewarding taking students with limited knowledge of chemistry being able to argue points with him at the end of the term. It kept him alert. Dr. Ladanyi was a very accomplished man achieving noteworthy success working for the early space program, establishing his own company, and his own manufacturing company, active in community activities and raising a family. Active duty in US Army Air Corps interrupted his service with NASA. After the war he returned to space work and attended night class at Case Institute of Technology and obtained a Master's Degree in 1947 and his Doctorate in 1950. He taught night classes at Fenn College/CSU for 29 years and was received the Distinguished Alumnus Awarded in 1995. He was the Engineer of The Year in 1996 for CSU. He established his own consulting firm in 1956 called Fluidyne and his own manufacturing firm in 1957 called Advanced Dynamics in Maple Hts. General Electric and NASA were customers. Creator of Ion Engine for NASA, which powered the Voyager missions, and manufacturing of custom tailored sensing elements like thermocouples and pressure probes, heat exchangers, and jet engine components to name a few. In 1967 Advanced Dynamics was purchased by Alco Standard Corporation specifically to acquire Dr. Ladanyi. He was listed in the World's Who's Who in Commerce and Industry and a member of various honorary societies. Dr. Ladanyi was a Registered Professional Engineer and founding member of The Cleveland Aerospace Association. He was Past President of Stein Collectors International and travelled all over the world for the conventions. A longtime resident of Shaker Hts., he served as Vice President of Ludlow Community Association and as President of the Ashwood Rd. Block Club. He was the beloved husband of Alice R. Ladanyi nee Clifford of Shaker Hts., OH and dear father of Donald J. Ladanyi of Westlake, OH; Ajay Ladanyi and Albert L. Ladanyi, both of Shaker Hts., OH. He was also the dear grandfather of Christina Reynolds Michael and Michelle McCrea Conor and great grandfather of Everett and Katherine McCrea and the dear brother of the late Albert L. Ladanyi. The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in his name to The First Hungarian Reformed Church, 14530 Alexander Rd., Walton Hills, OH 44146, the Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 W. 8th St., Erie, PA 16505 or Plymouth Church of Shaker Heights, 2860 Coventry Rd., 44120 where a Funeral service will be held Saturday March 16th at 10 am. Interment Sunset Memorial Park. FRIENDS MAY CALL AT BROWN-FORWARD FUNERAL HOME, 17022 CHAGRIN BLVD., SHAKER HTS., OH, FRIDAY, MARCH 15TH FROM 7-9 PM. a Hungarian prayer service will take place at 730 pm and a Masonic service will take place near the end of the calling hours
