Dorothy Elliott nee Wantz 87, loving wife, mother and friend, passed away peacefully at home on March 16, 2012. Dotty was born August 29, 1924 in Charlevoix, MI and grew up in Chicago, IL. She is pre-deceased by her parents Dorothy Armstrong Wantz, and her dear brother George Edward Wantz, Jr. Dotty graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in fine arts and it was there she met her beloved husband of 65 years, Bruce William Bill Elliott. Dotty's passions centered around the design and beauty of the natural world, especially in the art of floral arrangement and landscape design. She was both a leader and teacher to many in these fields. Dotty was the consummate civic and community volunteer, was active well into her eighties, and her efforts and energies touched many in this community. She has been a devoted member of the Shaker Lakes Garden Club since 1976 where she was President and was honored with almost every award. Additionally, she served on the Board of The Botanical Center Emeritus and has also been active in the Ikebana International Cleveland Chapter as a second level Master. Formerly she was a member of the Women's Committee of the Cleveland Orchestra. Her volunteering began in the sixties, when sensing the healing impact that flowers and plants could offer ill children, she created the horticultural program at the original Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital. In addition to her beloved husband Bill, Dotty is survived by her four children: Bruce W., Jr.; Thomas W. Jeanne; Jane Pinkas Robert, and Andrew A. Cindy. Beloved grandmother to Robbie, Callie, Benny, Lissa and Katie Pinkas; Ben and Elaine, and Brittany Elliott. And while Dotty so loved flowers, for those who wish, she would guide you to her beloved Botanical Center of Cleveland or Shaker Lakes Garden Club. A Memorial Service will be ehld at Fairmount Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 11:00 AM.
