Interment Crown Hill Cemetery. Dottie was born in Cleveland, Ohio on November 27, 1931 and was proud to be a lifelong Clevelander. She died in her home In Pepper Pike. An only child of her parents Dorothy and Stewart Apple, Dottie grew up in Rocky River and graduated from Rocky River High School, where she met her husband of 56 years, Carlton Bryce Schnell. Dottie graduated from Wellesley College with a degree in economics in 1953. She and Carlton married that same year and moved to New Haven, Connecticut where she worked as a research assistant to help put Carlton through Yale Law School. They returned to Cleveland in 1956 and raised three daughters, Laura Schnell of Brooklyn, New York, Margaret Schnell Healey of Orange Village, Ohio and Heidi Schnell of Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania. Dottie was a dedicated patron of and volunteer for Cleveland arts organizations including The Cleveland Play House, the Cleveland Music School Settlement, and The Cleveland Orchestra. Her many friends and family will remember her also as an avid and competitive tennis player, golfer and bridge player, a serious reader, a wonderful gardener and a devoted grandmother of eight.
