Dorothy Schoonmaker

Dorothy Holt Schoonmaker, 89, who in 2005 moved from New York to join her family in Shaker Heights, died at Judson Park after a brief battle with cancer. The daughter of Stanley and Katherine Holt, she graduated from Russell Sage College in Troy, NY. The widow of Robert L. Schoonmaker, Dorothy had two sons: Stanley Holt Schoonmaker deceased and The Rev. Daniel Holt Schoonmaker and his partner, John Altiere. She is survived by two grandsons, Matthew and Geoffrey, several nieces and nephews and her dear friend, Gloria Ritter of Willoughby, Ohio. Dorothy enjoyed her family, reading, crosswords, bridge, current events, summers at her cottage and a dry martini. Private graveside services have been held. Arrangements were coordinated by Brown-Forward Funeral Home, Shaker Heights. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Hubert's Episcopal Church, 8870 Baldwin Road, Kirtland Hills, Ohio 44060, where Dan serves as Rector.
