Dwight Crawford

DWIGHT E. CRAWFORD, Age 92, died March 8th in Hillcrest Hospital, Mayfield Heights, Ohio. Dwight was the beloved husband of Marjorie E. Crawford nee Treadwell of Pepper Pike, OH and the late Helen I. Crawford nee Kelley. He was the dear father of Judith C. Murch of Kirtland, OH and James D. Crawford Francine of Pepper Pike, OH and the dear step-father of Patricia W. Dillard Peter of Cleveland Hts., OH and Nancy L. Whiting Steve of Saratoga, CA. He was the grandfather of two and step-grandfather of three and dear brother of Barbara C. Gray of Lubbock, TX. Dwight was born in Galesburg, Illinois and his moved to Des Moines, Iowa when he was a young boy. He graduated from Drake University in Des Moines and earned his Masters in Business Administration, MBA, from New York University. He began his business career at the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company before entering the US Army for his service in WWII. After being discharged as a First lieutenant, Dwight came to Cleveland and went to work for the Sterling Carpet Company. Dwight started his own company with a friend and began to work with interior designers providing carpets under the company name of The Phillips-Crawford Carpet Company. They designed and had carpets produced by mills from all over the world. These carpets were unique to a customer's hobbies or Dwight's imagination. He even provided plain red carpets for the arrival of visiting Middle Eastern dignitaries. Dwight retired at the age of 70 and continued to travel the world with his wife, Marjorie. Dwight was a member of the Canterbury Golf Club, The Sons of the American Revolution, The Business Advisors of Cleveland, the Cheshire Cheese Club and was very active in the Rotary Club of Downtown Cleveland. The family suggests that those who wish may make contributions in his name to The Rotary Club of Cleveland, 1122 Prospect Ave., Cleveland, OH 44115. Private family services will be held in Knollwood Cemetery, Mayfield Heights, Ohio. THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS AT THE RESIDENCE, 28550 GATES MILLS BLVD., PEPPER PIKE, OH, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11TH FROM 3 TO 5 PM. BROWN-FORWARD FUNERAL HOME OF SHAKER HEIGHTS, OHIO IS IN CHARGE OF THE ARRANGEMENTS. 216-752-1200
