Mr.Edward A. Kilroy Jr.Ted, died Saturday March 13, from complications from pneumonia. He was 84 years old. He was the son of the late Edward A. Kilroy Sr. and Linna Boyd Kilroy. Mr. Kilroy, born in Cleveland, attended University School graduating in 1943. He played Varsity Football, Baseball, and Basketball receiving many distinguishing athletic awards. A lifelong devotee to the school, he attributed much of his later personal and business success to the values and character instilled in him while at University School. At age 17 he entered the Naval Air Corps. He was a navy pilot during WWII, ending his military service with his commission as a test Pilot at the Naval Air Base in Corpus Christi, Texas. His dedicated service to his country as a pilot led to a lifelong passion in flying and aviation. After the war, Mr. Kilroy attended Yale University, graduating in the Class of 1949, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While at Yale he played Varsity Football, and Baseball. Mr Kilroy started his business career working at Kilroy Structural Steel, founded by his father, Edward A. Kilroy Sr. in 1918. Under his guidance, Kilroy Steel became one of the largest steel fabrication and erection companies in the Midwest. Mr. Kilroy's signature building accomplishment was the Blossom Music Center in 1966. He was also the co-founder of The Kilroy Company of Texas, and oil and gas exploration firm founded in Houston, Texas in 1950. Mr. Kilroy would later merge Kilroy Structural Steel with Alco Standard where is held the position of Group Vice President. Mr. Kilroy was also active in private entrepreneurial investments including residential real estate development and venture capital. In 1995 The Kilroy Company returned to its manufacturing origins and purchased companies in the aerospace, industrial gas turbine, and medical markets. The company head quarters, now located in Mentor, Ohio, and is led by the third generation of Kilroy leadership, William S. Kilroy II. Mr. Kilroy was passionate about recreational activities involving his entire family. He was an avid Skier and tennis player throughout his life. After he gave up flying he turned to boating activities enjoying time with friends and family aboard his motor yacht "Kimari". Mr. Kilroy enjoyed boating for 50 years, taking his boat throughout the Great Lakes and eastern seaboard. In his later years he especially enjoyed fishing with his children and grand-children. Mr Kilroy became a Member of the Young President's Organization YPO in 1955. He remained active in YPO and graduated to the World's President's Organization WPO where he was active until 2005. Mr. Kilroy was a past Commodore of the Mentor Harbor Yachting Club. He was also a life trustee of University School. He and his wife, Angela have been residents of Shaker heights, Ohio for 59 years. They also spent the winter months at their home in Ocean Ridge, Florida. Mr. Kilroy was preceded in death by his son Edward A. Kilroy III , his identical twin brother William S. Kilroy of Houston Tx. and his youngest brother Oliver B. Kilroy , Tuscan, Arizona. He had a sister who died at birth. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Angela McCrory Kilroy, Daughter Mari A. Kilroy of New York City, sons, Michael B. Kilroy, Chesterland, Ohio, Gregory T. Kilroy, Bainbridge, Ohio , William S. Kilroy II of Chagrin Falls, Ohio and 8 grandchildren.
