Elisabeth Bicknell (King) Holmes, 86, of Gates Mills, OH died due to complications with Alzheimer's disease. Passionate about horticulture, Mrs. Holmes served as president of the Garden Club of Cleveland and as a representative to the Garden Club of America's national board. She also served on the boards of Cleveland's Central School of Practical Nursing and the Altar Guild for St. Christopher's-by-the-River in Gates Mills, OH. An avid supporter of the Northeast Ohio equestrian community, she was a longtime Co-Chair of the Chagrin Valley Hunt Horse Shows.
Mrs. Holmes attended Laurel School in Shaker Heights, OH and graduated from Madeira School in McLean, VA. She received a B.A. in English & Mathematics with honors from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY.
Mrs. Holmes was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Peter Holmes, and two daughters, Elisabeth Long and Kate Holmes. She is survived by two brothers, Ralph King of Vero Beach, FL and Warren King of Ripton, VT; the remaining three of her five children, Carl Holmes (Margaret), Susan Bercheck (David), and Pamela Blossom (Perry). She has four grandchildren; Kathryn Bispham, Harrison Bispham, Elisabeth Blossom and Jennifer Blossom; and also survived by the children of David Bercheck: Alexander and Samantha.
