Elizabeth Brien

November 25, 1913 — December 17, 2012

Elizabeth Dunbar Brien was a fifth generation descendent of the Reid and Dunbar families who came from New England to settle in Cleveland in 1830. She attended Margaret Hall School for Girls. She was a graduate of Laurel School and attended the Institute of Art. Her main interests were in antique collecting, reading, boating and travel. Mrs. Brien and her husband Douglas whom she married in 1937 maintained a winter home in Rancho Santa Fe, California for many years. Their summers were spent at their old family cottage at Les Cheneaux Islands, Michigan. She was an eleventh generation member of the Society of Mayflower descendents, and an emeritus member of the Junior League of Cleveland. During her years of volunteer work she worked at Fairmount Presbyterian Church, The Cleveland Museum of Art, St. Luke's Hospital, and Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital. She and her husband who passed away in 1997 were members of Mayfield Country Club, InTown Club, Chagrin Valley Hunt Club and Les Cheneaux Yacht Club, and Fairmount Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cleveland Botanical Garden, 11030 East Blvd., Cleveland, OH 44106 or to Fairmount Presbyterian Church, 2757 Fairmount Blvd., Cleveland Hts., OH 44118, where a Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 on Friday, December 21, 2012.
