Elizabeth Rockwell Marshall died peacefully at home July 30 after a long illness. Born in 1928 to Horace and Elizabeth Rockwell of Hartford, Connecticut, she was predeceased by her brothers Horace, Henry, and Richard, and her sister Constance (Cross). She graduated from the Oxford School and attended Smith College. She married Dr. James S. Marshall of Bethlehem, PA in June 1949. She and her husband raised their children in Farmington, CT, moving to Gates Mills, OH in 1965.
She was an intrepid sailor, a keen cook, a lover of cats, and an extremely knowledgeable plantswoman. Always gracious and ever a lady, she treasured her summers in Maine. She was a member of the Shaker Lakes Garden Club and the Intown Club.
She is survived by her husband and her four daughters, Melissa Marshall of Pittsburgh; Deborah Gates and her husband, Peter, of Weston, MA; Joan Losee and her husband, David, of West Hartford, CT; and Mary Marshall of Worcester, MA; three grandchildren (Samuel Gates, Caroline Gates Slocum, and James Losee); and her great grandchild, Clark Slocum. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 7th at 11:00 AM at St. Christopher's by-the-River Episcopal Church, 7601 Old Mill Rd., Gates Mills, OH 44040.
