Elizabeth "Betty" Hitchcock Rose, beloved wife of the late Nelson P. Rose former partner at Jones Day Reavis & Pogue whom she married on July 11, 1941. Dear mother of Nelson H. Rose and Marshall H. Rose Betsy. Beloved grandmother of Elizabeth Rose Henderson Jeffrey, Averell Rose, Aaron Rose, Shannon Rose Fain Adam, Weylin Rose and Talia Rose. Great grandmother of Sarah Henderson and Eric Henderson. Dear sister of the late Morley "Budge" Hitchcock Betty. Betty graduated from Laurel School in 1933 and from Wellesley College in 1937. She was Vice-Chairman of the Red Cross Nurse's Aide Corps in Washington DC during World War II. Betty designed equipment for the chronically ill as a hobby. Her shampoo device for bedridden patients, the Rinsette, has been on the market since the early sixties and is used in hospitals and care centers nationwide. Betty served on the Boards of the Junior League of Cleveland, Laurel School and the Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging. In 1995 Betty was honored as a Laurel School Distinguished Alumnae for her work as a Civic Activist and Inventor. In 2010 The Benjamin Rose Institute honored Betty with a commemorative award in recognition of her special gift establishing the "Innovation in Caregiving Award". Betty realized that caregivers are creative problem solvers and she intended this award to celebrate the accomplishments of direct caregivers. http://www.benrose.org/about/AnnualReports.cfm . Betty was a member of The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the State of Ohio. In 2010 she was nominated to the National Roll of Honor for her work in the area of historical publications. She wrote and published the "New Citizens Guide" because she believed in sharing her love of this country with its newest citizens-this has been a long standing project of the Ohio Society. She also wrote and produced a play about Abraham Lincoln, "Enshrined Forever", and, created teacher education materials to accompany the DVD. Copies of these materials were donated to schools and are shelved in the Lincoln Library in Springfield, Illinois. http://damesohio.net/page17/page17.html . Betty served as a volunteer tutor in the Adult Basic Education Program of Cleveland Heights/University Heights; she also volunteered as a tutor at John Hay High School. Betty contributed significantly to the creation of "The Little Book". http://tutor_me.tripod.com/about.html . When the Ohio Ninth-Grade Proficiency Tests were replaced with the Ohio Graduation Tests OGT, the Heights-Hillcrest-Lyndhurst Branch of the American Association of University Women AAUW published a study guide entitled "The New Little Book"... The forerunner of the guide was "The Little Book", which was an important, far-reaching result of the Church of the Covenant tutors' work at John Hay High School in the 1990's. "The Little Book" was a pocket-sized, paperback handbook designed to help students handle the difficult hurdle of the citizenship portion of the proficiency test. "The Little Book" was drafted by a committee of Covenant tutors, former teachers, and a retired attorney. Betty loved the Church of the Covenant. In her lifetime, she conceived and donated support for a number of significant projects, including the new Newberry Organ, which is currently being installed the existing organ in the church was donated by her grandparents; major renovation/installation of the church exterior entry, including landscaping, steps and an ADA access ramp; installation of a new interior entry elevator; and renovation of an existing restroom to ADA standards.
