Ellen Jane Visser Dicke of Cleveland Heights, OH passed into eternal rest Sunday, January 12, 2014.
Born on April 19, 1929, in Long Prairie, MN she was the daughter of the late Nickolaus Luttmer and Angela Louisa Katherina Haberkorn Visser of Long Prairie, MN and the beloved wife of 63 years to the late Pastor Harold F. Dicke.
Ellen loved lazy days by the Lake, especially at her father's cottage on Lake Osakis Minnesota and later at Brant Lake New York where many summer vacations were enjoyed by the entire family. Anything to do with water; being in it, watching it, or boating on it was a true source of happiness for Ellen, she was often heard to say "isn't this the life" while floating on her air mattress. She was an accomplished quilter with many masterpiece quilts. Time with family was her greatest joy, she had a flair for decorating her home to make it warm and inviting to all who visited her. She loved to garden and spend time in her "Gardening Shed", built for her in the family backyard by her son Matt, where she could get lost in a book or relax in her Adirondack chair just watching the birds and nature around her.
Ellen was the beloved mother of Jennifer Fisher (John) of Newnan, GA; Rebecca Lutz (Craig) of Valparaiso, IN; Sara Dougherty (Thomas) of Mt. Lebanon, PA; Matthew Dicke of Cleveland Hts., OH and Andrew Dicke of Clifton Park, NY. Dear grandmother of Sophie Lutz and Daniel, William and Claire Dougherty. Dear sister-in-law to Doris Visser of Long Prairie, MN; Margaret Weerts (Edward) and Elinor Burce (Willard), both of Eau Claire, WI, and Edward Dicke (Phyllis) of Oakdale, MN. And beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews. Ellen was predeceased by her brother John.
She will be sadly missed by all.
Ellen was educated at Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis as an RN and worked at various medical facilities. She was a beloved Pastor's wife for 40 plus years but her greatest love was being a mother and grandmother.
