Emily Garratt

February 5, 1957 — December 14, 2017

Emily Brooke Garratt (nee Anthony) age 60, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2017 surrounded by her family. She leaves behind her husband of 36 years, David, daughters Macy Stein (Mitch), Emily and Katie, as well as her sister Kate Rogers, brothers Michael and Peter Anthony and 3 grandchildren Eleanor, Maggie and Charles Stein.

Brooke was born in Long Island, NY to the late Gerard Anthony and Mary Benedict and spent most of her early childhood in Dayton, OH. She attended Miss Porters School in Farmington, CT and Trinity College in Hartford, CT graduating in 1979 with a degree in History. She began her career in New York City with the book publisher Charles Scribner & Sons where she met her future husband. After living in New York City, Washington, DC and Des Moines, IA she and her family moved to Cleveland, OH where she has resided for almost 20 years in Chagrin Falls. She and her husband enjoyed renovating their century farmhouse and caring for the horses and dogs that roamed their property.

Brooke was active in the Garden Club of Cleveland (former President), the Altar Guild at St. Paul's Church and a number of other organizations where she enjoyed gardening, horseback riding, knitting/needlepoint and reading. She loved to play tennis at The Hanger and Hunt Club with her friends.

During the summer months she spent time in Leland, MI at her family's house on the shore of Lake Michigan. She was a long time member of the Leland Country Club and Leland Yacht Club where she enjoyed playing tennis, golf and occasional sailing on Lake Leelanau.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Emily's memory to the Garden Club of America, 14 E. 60th St., New York, NY 10022 or to the Leelanau Conservancy, 105 North First St., P.O. Box 1007, Leland, MI 49654. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2747 Fairmount Blvd., Cleveland Hts., OH 44106 on Tuesday, December 19 at 1 PM.
