Ester A. Boyd was born on June 2, 1922 to the late Ruth Taylor Henderson and Roscoe Addison Henderson of Massaponax in Spotsylvania County, VA.
The eldest of twelve siblings of this union, she joyfully reunited with many she dearly loved and missed when she went to her heavenly reward on January 8, 2014 from Shaker Heights, OH.
In her youth, she had relocated to Philadelphia, PA to live with extended family members and it was from there she did pursue her education, employment and happiness.
Ester married William Louis Meade and, in 1953, she and "Creamy" had Lois Anita Meade, who became her only surviving child. In 1975, Ester married William Boyd of Spotsylvania County, VA but did divorce soon after.
Ester was employed by the US Army Electronic Command, formerly the US Signal Corp, from where she retired in 1977 after serving more than 30 years in civilian duty. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed global travel early in her retirement.
Baptized in membership at Second New Hope Baptist Church in Spotsylvania County, VA Ester did re-affirm her faith at the First African United Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia in 1952 where she was honored as an Elder in leadership under the guidance of the Reverend Shelton B. Waters. Ester was active in her membership there, until she transferred membership to Calvin Presbyterian Church later in life.
In February 2012 when she could no longer manage her own physical independence, Ester relocated to Shaker Heights, OH with her daughter's family where she remained for the balance of her days. It was in this relocation where she found her final comfort with the congregation at St. Mark's Presbyterian Church where she, her daughter, and son-in-law joined in membership in early June, 2013.
Ester leaves to celebrate her life: her daughter, Lois (Stephen) Lott; grand-daughter, Erin (Kevin)Jones and grandson, Stephen Lott, Jr.; great-grandchildren Aliyah Lott, and Dasha Marie and Michael Antonio Jones; sisters, Geneva Corprew, Naomi Manley, Lois (B. Eugene) Harvey, and Loretta Porter; brothers, Thomas (Winnie) Henderson and Leroy (Sandra) Henderson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family sincerely appreciates the staff of Kabb Eldercare Law® and attendants from Shaker Gardens Assisted Living facility. It extends special gratitude to the care-givers from the Woodlands of Shaker Heights® who provided their time and attention to the very end. We also appreciated the team members from the Hospice of the Western Reserve (OH), and to the pastorate and members of Calvin and St. Mark's Presbyterian churches who demonstrated comfort and care to Ester and her family for the past two years.
Until the very end of her life, Ester contributed freely of all that she had to those she encountered, and she will be missed.
The family commemorates the life and love Ester gave - - and honors the Source of her Divine Joy. To God be the Glory!
