January 19, 1922 — December 14, 2013

ESTHER ANTOINETTE VEIT (nee D'Amato)) The beloved wife of the late Quentin F. Veit; loving mother of Cynthia V. Jenne of Greensboro, NC and Marybeth Eakin of Highland Hts., OH; dear grandmother of Peter Veit Martinek-Jenne (Anna), Sara Echerd (Robert). and Katherine Chapman (Graham), Scott Eakin (Sarah) and Matt Eakin; dear great grandmother of Ronan Martinek-Jenne, Peter Quentin Martinek-Jenne, Nora Martinek-Jenne and Madeleine Esther Echerd; dear sister of the late Ernest D'Amato.

Esther grew up in East Cleveland and attended Sacred Heart Academy. She went to Dyke School of Commerce and worked as the Executive Secretary/Personal Assistant at Engle Fetzer Furrier.

She met her husband, Quentin at Indian Lakes on vacation. They married on September 9th, 1947 and lived in Wapakoneta, Ohio before moving to Cleveland. They entered the restaurant business and owned and operated the Bate Restaurant (9501 Euclid Avenue). They ran an industrial cafeteria and started the Veit Corporation for vending and food concessions.

Esther was a member of Christ Child and Carmelite Guilds and was a devoted member of The Church of St. Dominic, singing in the choir for many years.

She loved playing cards with her grandkids and great grandkids, and playing piano (by ear) at all family parties and holidays.

She was an excellent dancer (even at 90 years old dancing the night away at the weddings of her grandson, Scott, and granddaughter, Katherine).

She made a courageous move to North Carolina at age 89 and continued to touch lives and make new friends.

Esther was an amazing woman with a glorious presence and spunk and will be missed by all that love her.

The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in her name to The American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.

A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, December 21st at 11 AM in The Church of St. Dominic, 19000 Van Aken Blvd., (at Norwood Rd.), Shaker Hts., OH, followed by a short reception at the church.

Interment All Souls Cemetery, Chardon, OH.
