FLORENCE F. KAY (nee Fawick) of Hunting Valley, OH, died May 24th after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Louise Fawick and Cleveland Industrialist, the late Thomas Fawick. Florence was married to pioneer heart surgeon, the late Earle B. Kay, MD, who passed away in 2000. She was the loving mother of Deborah Fuldauer (Douglas E.) of Chagrin Falls, OH and the late Tommy Kay. She was the dear stepmother of Carole Ann Combs (Richard), Nancy Lindsay, David Kay (Jennifer) and the late Richard Kay. She was the dear grandmother of the late Serena Fuldauer. Loving sister of the late Dorothy Steadman.
Florence was quite an athlete in her earlier years. She was a champion amateur golfer and avid tennis player at her clubs, The Country Club and The Cleveland Racquet Club. Later, she turned those energies into gardening and developing the thirty seven gardens on her Hunting Valley estate to varied and beautiful enhancements. She was often seen even cutting the huge expanse of grass driving the big riding lawn mower that they owned. She and Earle shared that passion for gardening and he often said that if he was not so busy being a surgeon, he would just as rather be a gardener!
Her home was always well decorated with all the beautiful benefits of her attention to the gardens. It was a welcoming place, for sure.
The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in her name to The Cleveland Orchestra, c/o Severance Hall, 11001 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44106.
