In Remembrance of the Life of Freddie W. Cooper Freddie W. Cooper was a native of Syracuse, New York born July 8, 1921, the eldest of three children. His family moved to Cleveland in 1928, where Freddie participated in many sports- baseball, football, track and skating. He won the title of Speed Skater Champion of the Cleveland Press Silver Skates. In the year 1942 Freddie served in the Army as a Technical Sergeant in World War II in the Quarter Master Corp. He was employed as a mail carrier for the Mayfield Post Office since 1949. He Retired on January 2, 1985 after 36 years of service. Freddie was a gifted artist and enjoyed drawing. In his spare time he worked as a freelance design artist advertising for small businesses. Freddie and Eloise Douglass eloped to Indiana and later in their marriage had two children 11 months apart, Gaile Ozanne and Deborah Enty. Those who grew up in the Shaker Heights neighborhood knew "Mr. Cooper" as a very protective father. He never hesitated to threaten the life of any young man who even dared to ask his daughters for directions. He was also known for his red or burgundy cars, newly purchased every two years. His love for the Cleveland Browns was known by all, as he formed and voted himself President of the "Browns Booster Club". Freddie did not hesitate to take out his typewriter after a Browns football game and type a letter to the team on how they could improve for the next week's game or compliment the team and coaches on a job well done that's when they were winning. Freddie was a relentless golfer forming and serving as President of the "Strokers' Golf Club" under the Masonic Temple No. 28. His Masonic affiliations included being a member of Eureka Lodge No. 52 since 1959 where he served as Worshipful Master, held office in Rose Croix of Bezaleel Consistory No. 15 Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry where he earned his 32nd degree. "Illustrious Freddie W. Cooper" worked his way through all stations in El Hasa Temple No. 28 to the highest honor of the 51st Potentate. He also was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church. Freddie peacefully departed this life Wednesday, December 5, 2012 while being cared for at Eliza Bryant Village. He is survived by his two daughters Gaile Ozanne Dominic and Deborah Enty; six grandchildren Dominic, Monique, Olivia and Joshua Ozanne; Lauren and Richard Enty; a sister-in-law Arlene Cooper and a niece Marlene Cooper. He was precedent by a brother, Marvin Cooper and a sister Jean Dickerson.
