Fredrick Sherman Lamb, of Cleveland, died Monday, December 10, after a brief illness. He was 96 years old. Mr. Lamb was the husband of the late Helen Adams Lamb; the father of Betsy Lamb Merriman and Philip H. Lamb Cynthia, both of Cleveland; the grandfather of Lisa Chambers Mason, Benjamin and Kata; and the great-grandfather of Grace Ann and Will. Fred Lamb was born in Amesbury, MA, grew up in Philadelphia, graduating from Abbington High School, and then from Drexel College, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Beta. He joined General Electric in 1939, moving to Cleveland in 1940 to be at Nela Park. During WWII he worked at Nela on Government projects, continuing there until his retirement after 35 years. Mr. Lamb was on the Planning Commission in Cleveland Heights for many years and was active at his church. After retiring, he and Mrs. Lamb travelled extensively. He loved books, and was a member of the Rowfant Club. He designed and built his own loom. He was interested in art and music, and supported the Museum, the Institute of Music and the Institute of Art. He was also a member of the Holden Arboretum and the Dunham Tavern Museum, among other organizations. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Cleveland Institute of Music, 11021 East Boulevard Cleveland, OH 44106 or Holden Arboretum, 9500 Sperry Road Willoughby, OH 44094. A Memorial Service will be held at the Church of the Covenant, 11205 Euclid Avenue Cleveland, OH 44106 on Saturday, January 19th, 2013, at 2:00 PM, with gathering afterwards at Judson Manor.
