Gene Astrup Faubel

Gene Astrup Faubel of Gates Mills, Ohio passed away peacefully on October 6th, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 5th, 1941 in Cleveland to Jean Astrup Faubel Blanche and Eugene L. Faubel, he lived a life filled with love, adventure, and generosity. As a young man, he found his lifelong partner, Marion (Justice), and married during their junior year at Rollins College. Their love story remained a cornerstone of his life, as he always carried a cherished photo of her in his wallet. He made long lasting friendships during his time at Rollins where he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.

Professionally, Gene distinguished himself as Executive Vice President of the Astrup Company, where his leadership and dedication left an indelible mark within the commercial textiles industry. He was known for his fervor for automobiles and love for travel with “the group”.

Gene had a vibrant social life as a former member of the Mayfield Sand Ridge Club, Tavern Club, Union Club, Ponte Vedra Inn & Club, and La Playa GC. He was a current member of the Chagrin Valley Hunt Club where he and his family made some of their most cherished memories. He was an enthusiastic golfer having had the opportunity to play at some of the greatest courses in the world.

We will remember Gene for his unwavering love for his family and his commitment to his community through humanitarian efforts, having donated much of his resources to support causes close to his heart such as healthcare, land conservation, and education.

He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, benevolence, and enduring love and friendship. He is survived by his loving wife, Marion Faubel of 61 years; two children, daughter Jill (Christopher) Pekarek and son, Walter Scott Faubel; three grand children, Julia (Dominic) Ortolani, and Kyle and Caroline Pekarek; and one great grandson, Hudson Ortolani. As well as his beloved dog, Daisy.
