George Oliva, Jr. died early Easter morning, April 24, 2011 of natural causes at his home in Kirtland Hills, OH. He was born on November 9, 1920 in New York, New York. He was educated at Phillips Academy in Andover, MA, Princeton University and Fordham Law School. George moved to Cleveland, OH in 1950 and married Gertrude Perkins of Gates Mills, OH in 1953. They had six children together and were married until her death from cancer in 1987. After twenty years in advertising, he entered the radio industry in 1965 with the purchase of WPAX-AM in Thomasville, GA. He added three more radio stations in the south and then in 1976 acquired WERE-AM and WGCL-FM now WNCX-FM in Cleveland, OH. In addition to his radio business, George served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Huntington National Bank, The Cleveland Museum of Art, The Cleveland Playhouse, Hawken School, Connecticut College and The Foxcroft School. He was a member of The Chagrin Valley Hunt Club, Kirtland Country Club, and The Georgia-Florida Field Trial Club. George was the beloved husband of the late Gertrude P. nee Perkins and is survived by his wife, Pamela Jacobson, whom he married in 2007, his six children: George III Sioux of Encino, CA; Katharine Scovil Alexander C. of Hunting Valley, OH; Lyn Dominic Vito of Ft. Myers, FL; Mark Victoria of Cambridge, MA; Leigh Julie of Manchester, VT and Tod Robin of Moreland Hills, OH, and 17 grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, April 30th at 4 PM in The Wade Memorial Chapel of Lake View Cemetery, Cleveland, OH.
