Kent – Prof. Gladys M. Pritchett, Ph.D , age 83, passed on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at the Crane House wing of South Franklin Circle in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Born in Mobile, Alabama on March 7, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Lige and Georgia Pritchett, one of six siblings.
Gladys was highly educated and a lifelong educator; she enjoyed educational research and teaching students of all levels. She earned two master’s degrees from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois and a doctorate in special education from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. During her career in education, Gladys taught in the Chicago public schools, at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois and for more than two decades at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. She was the author of numerous publications. Gladys was awarded Professor Emeritus status at Kent State University, upon her retirement in 2002.
Gladys was also an avid and accomplished gardener, continuing the tradition of her award-winning gardener mother. She produced works of art in cross-stitch, a form of embroidery. Gladys was a member of the Kent Presbyterian Church. Gladys is survived by her son, Jay L. Knott, daughter-in-law, Tine Johannesen Knott, sister Joann Pritchett, brothers, Elijah and Glenn Pritchett and numerous other loving family members.
