Beloved mother, Gladys C. Wilson (nee Croft) went home to be with the Lord on January 21, 2022.
Born on November 24, 1938 to the late William Pink and Ethel Lou Croft (nee Walker) in Gadsden, Alabama. She is preceded in death by Curtis Wilson and sister Diana Croft. She is survived by her daughters Sheila Y. Wilson of Plant City, FL and Charlotte P. Wilson-Veider and son-in-law Thomas Veider of Cleveland Heights, OH, and brother John Croft of Birmingham, AL.
She attended Gadsden’s Carver High and continued her education at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, AL. She wed Curtis Wilson in 1958 and relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, where she began her teaching career with the Cleveland Public Schools system for 32 years before retiring in 1994.
Gladys enjoyed and was passionate about travel and exploring new places. She loved to attend jazz concerts and Broadway shows. As a yearly attendee to many Black History celebrations, she believed in educating people about the Black experience. Gladys was a strong believer in higher education and donated to many charities that strive to aid students in attending college.
A long-time member of Fifth Christian Church, she volunteered in their food bank, youth ministries and senior group.
Gladys is survived by numerous cherished cousins and friends.
The family prefers in lieu of flowers to make donations in her name to the Curtis Wilson Scholarship Fund of Cleveland State University, 2121 Euclid Ave., Cleveland OH 44115.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 29th at 1 PM at BROWN-FORWARD, 17022 CHAGRIN BLVD., SHAKER HTS., OH WHERE FRIENDS MAY CALL ONE HALF HOUR PRIOR TO THE SERVICE.
The service will be livestreamed via a link available on this page, 15 minutes prior to the service.
Masks are required for the visitation and for the service.
