Glenn A. Darling, age 93, builder and developer of homes and offices in Pepper Pike, Beachwood and other eastern suburbs, passed away on December 11, 2023. Born November 25, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was the loving son of the late Merle Kenneth "MK" and Margaret Darling (nee Ulmer).
Glenn was a graduate of Heights High School and Duke University. He was elected one of twenty outstanding freshmen and was a member of The Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He and his brother, the late Lee W., started Darling & Darling Co. of Cleveland in 1956. They built 75 luxury homes in Pepper Pike and nine commercial office buildings including Executive Commons, Chagrin Commerce and the Darling and Darwood buildings on Chagrin Boulevard as well as office buildings in Euclid and Orange. He owned and operated The Commons of Pepper Pike Restaurant in the early 1970's.
Glenn was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed playing golf at the Shaker Heights Country Club, tennis at the Cleveland Racquet Club and bowling at the Cleveland Athletic Club where he was acknowledged as a member of fifty years before the club sadly closed its doors for good. He was a member of the Mentor Harbor Yacht Club and Catawba Island Club and enjoyed boating on the great lakes. He also loved skiing at Holiday Valley. Glenn had a beautiful voice and made a record with some of the musicians from the Cleveland Orchestra backing him. Last of the unforgettable and fun loving "ing" brothers.
Dear Husband of the late Mary C. Darling (nee Duffy). Loving father of Deborah Darling, Kimberly Darling, Kelly Pekoc (Mark) and Makenzie Darling. Loving uncle of Lori Krug (Steve) and Chase Darling (Shawn). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Duke University, P.O. Box 90581, Durham, NC 27708. A celebration of Glenn's life will be held at a later date in the spring of 2024. Interment Knollwood Cemetery.
