Glenn Martin Kastner, 100, passed away on Friday, April 21. He was the loving husband of Madge Wollaeger Kastner who preceded him in death. Born on August 2, 1922, he was the son of Martin Henry and Bertha Matilda Sonntag Kastner of Cleveland, Ohio. He had one sister, Jean Busanus, who also preceded him in death. Glenn is survived by his four children, David M. Kastner (Marty), Dale A. Kastner (Cheryl), Gary C. Kastner (Shelley), Janis L. Moore (Robert) and stepchildren Christopher Wollaeger (Elizabeth) and Philip Wollaeger (Deborah); grandchildren Michael “Mik” Kastner (Jessica), Christopher Kastner (Jade), Derek Kastner (Lexi), Kimberly McNamara (Rory), Carter L. Kastner, Bethany Gronsky (Derek), Travis Jones, and Troy Jones. He is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren.
Glenn attended Cleveland Heights High School and Case School of Applied Science in Cleveland, Ohio, where he received a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree. He worked for Gould/Recording Division for 26 years. He was a member of the Greatest Generation serving as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army Signal Corps in World War II.
All during Glenn’s enduring life, he was always involved in various forms of music and sports. Glenn was active at Grace Lutheran Church, singing in the choir and playing with the bell choir as well as participating in their fastpitch softball, golf and bowling teams. Glenn was also active playing clarinet and saxophone in many bands including several Al Koran Shrine Bands as well as the Hillcrest Concert Band & Scimitars Swing Band. Glenn was playing in concerts until he was 98 years old. He was also a member of the Heights Lionheart Masonic Lodge.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 22 at 11 AM at Brown-Forward, 17022 Chagrin Blvd., Shaker Hts., OH 44120 AND WHERE FRIENDS MAY CALL ONE HALF HOUR PRIOR TO THE SERVICE. Interment Lutheran Cemetery.
