Gordon Davis Treco passed away on November 17, 2024 at age 65 at home in Shaker Heights, Ohio. He is survived by his mother Diana Treco; his two daughters, Wynne and Kendall whom he adored; and his brothers Skip and James and their families.
Gordon was born in Cleveland and spent the early part of his life there graduating from Hawken School in 1977 and later from Denison University in 1981. He was accepted into the Manufacturers Hanover Trust’s corporate bank training program upon graduating from Denison and moved to New York to begin his career in finance. Citigroup lured him away after four years as did Security Pacific nine years later. He transitioned to investment banking and completed his career as senior member of Chessiecap Securities, Inc., a boutique investment bank based outside of Washington, D.C.
Gordon was a gregarious, kind person with a wry wit who always was ready to contribute to the fun of an evening. He had a gift in being able to slip in an understated comment that, when the people around him processed it, would bring smiles if not outright laughter. Gordo made friends quickly wherever he lived. These strong friendships (whether forged in Cleveland, at Denison, in New York City, in Chicago, in Connecticut or in Virginia) survived his career re-locations. These friends from his early years and from later in his life were important to Gordon and he valued them highly. He was a thoughtful listener, had great empathy and offered well-reasoned, sound advice. His positive, caring demeanor and good soul were valued by his friends.
Gordon’s number one priority, though, was to his family, especially for his two daughters. He loved being part of his daughters’ childhood. He was extremely proud of them, was ready to share their accomplishments and wished them the very best in life.
Gordon loved sport. He played football and tennis at Hawken and made the varsity team as a freshman at Denison where he played tennis competitively and lettered all four years. His racquet skills were transferable to paddle tennis where he and his partner were ranked players. He loved golf, particularly the time spent with friends traveling to storied courses. He wanted to be involved with his daughters’ interest in sports and volunteered to coach their weekend teams, although it meant less time to pursue his own sporting activities.
A celebration is being planned in the Cleveland area in January 2025. Interment, Lake View Cemetery.
The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in his name to Hawken School, PO Box 8002, Gates Mills, OH 44040.
