Henry Chisholm III passed away peacefully on November 9 at the age of 88.
Henry married his high school sweetheart, Sally Weaver, upon graduating from Yale University in 1957, and they spent 66 happy years together raising their three children, golfing, curling, traveling and being active grandparents.
Henry had a successful career as a metallurgical engineer in Oglebay Norton’s Iron Ore division. He was a longtime member and past president of Mayfield Country Club and past president of Mayfield Curling Club where he was also the ice maker for 20 years and fought a valiant battle to level “Chisholm Hill” on sheet one. He was also a longtime and active member of Church of the Saviour and The Hermit Club.
In retirement, he tutored students young and old in algebra; traveled extensively, often with friends and family; was an avid golfer and curler; and was the gravitational center of his extended family, often to be found presiding over family dinners and events. Hobbies included gardening and model railroading, which his children and grandchildren fondly remember. He was also proud of his Chisholm family history, dating back to the first Henry Chisholm who arrived in Cleveland in 1850 to oversee the further construction of the Cleveland Breakwall and was a pioneer in Cleveland’s steel industry. Henry will take his place among his ancestors at Lake View Cemetery.
Henry is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Sally Chisholm (nee Weaver); his children Deborah C. Hull (David), Heather C. Evans (Robert) and Henry Chisholm IV; his grandchildren Charlie Hull, Sara Hull and Kate Evans. He is also survived by his sister Heidi C. Salveson (Nils) and his brother J. Terry Chisholm (Estell).
