JAMES A COE, Age 80, of Shaker Heights, died Wed., July 18th, 2012. James was the beloved husband of Virby, the cherished father of Victoria Richard, Renita, Brenda and Cynthia. He was the brother of George Albert of Chicago, IL and brother-in-law of William H. Alexander, Jr. James was the devoted grandfather of six and great grandfather of seven. The family will receive friends at 10 AM Tuesday, July 24th, 2012 in Sanctuary Baptist Church, 4004 East 131st St., Cleveland, OH, with funeral services following at 10:30 AM. Interment Cleveland Memorial Gardens. James Arthur Coe was born in Mason, TN on November 12, 1931 to the union of Fred and Melissa Coe. He was the youngest of twelve children. James departed this life here on earth July 18, 2012 at 9:05 p.m. at the Hospice of the Western Reserve in Euclid, Ohio after a lengthy illness. James was united in holy matrimony June 10, 1951 to the love of his life Virby Jane Alexander. To this union 4 daughters were born: Victoria Joanne, Renita Jean, Brenda Lynn and Cynthia Marie. James worked for the United States Postal Service as a Letter Carrier. The majority of his employment was with the Cleveland Heights Branch. He retired in 1989 after 30 years of dedicated service. James was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio. He later joined Sanctuary Baptist Church under the Pastoral Leadership of the late Rev. Herbert Smith. As a member he served in the following ministries: Pastors Aide. Usher Board, Finance Board, Male Chorus and the Sanctuary Choir. He was also co-chairperson of the Pastors Anniversary committee in the year 2000. He enjoyed traveling, playing board games with his family, doing crossword puzzles, watching television especially Young and the Restless, playing his numbers, cards, going to the race track and casinos. As a member of the Ten Plus Social Club he had the opportunity to do a lot of traveling and participate in various social outings. He was not one to bite his tongue. He would tell you what he thought or felt and left it like that. You either liked it or you didn't... didn't matter much to him. He was always one to offer good advice, whether you use it or not, it was up to you. He was meticulous about his house. It had to ALWAYS be in order! That included his children and grandchildren. "No running in the house... keep those hands off the mirror". James was famous for introducing "Mr. Love" to them. "Mr. Love" was his post office belt. Daddy/ Grandpa would always say "he was just giving them a little love". He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Virby Jane. Four loving daughters, Victoria Richard, Renita, Brenda and Cynthia.One brother, George Albert Chicago, IL. One brother in-law, William Alexander Jr. Six grandchildren: DawnDavon, Jason, Nicole, Manuel, Rita-Marie and Courtney. Seven great-grandchildren: Jaekwon, Destinee, William, Javell, Nahriya, Rhyan and Imani. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. We will miss you- James, Daddy, Grandpa, Papa and Great Grandpa!
