James Irving

March 24, 1934 — March 26, 2014

James Ronald Irving, ASID of Cleveland, Ohio passed from our company unexpectedly on March 26.

He was born to Frank Eugene and Helen Wilma Irving on March 24, 1934 in Huntington, West Virginia.

James graduated from Western Reserve University with a double major in History and English and was an avid reader and follower of music and the arts his entire adult life He went to study at the New York School of Design and the Dante Allegheri Institute of Rome. He began his career in interior design with the Halle Brothers Department Store and later at the May Company, Dillards, Harrisons and finally with Paysage in an accomplished career that lasted more than 40 years.

James was an active member of Plymouth Church of Shaker Heights and was much involved in the activities of that parish.

He is preceded in death by his father Frank Irving; mother Helen Irving; brother Floyd Irving; and a niece Cathy Buck. James is survived by nephews Frank Irving of Beaumont, Texas; James Irving of Austin,Texas; Mark Irving of Ft. Worth,Texas, and a niece Margaret Hildinger of Rowlett,Texas.

Among his many accomplishments are numerous show houses, historic renovations, country clubs, private clubs, offices and private residences including many apartments in New York City and overseas. James's great passion was designing beautiful rooms and considered himself to be colorist decorator who always found it vital to capture the essence-persona of the client. His attention to detail made his work extraordinary and his client list included second and third generations of the same family. James was an original and his advice to all of his family and friends was to be original too; express your personality and relish being different. He loved to travel the world and most of all, he loved to bring beautiful surroundings into the lives of his friends and clients.

Friends may call at Brown-Forward, 17022 Chagrin Boulevard., Shaker Heights, Ohio, Thursday, April 24th from 5 to 7pm. The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 25 at 4pm at Plymouth Church of Shaker Heights.

James will be buried at Columbiana County Memorial Park in East Liverpool, Ohio with his parents.
