James Hawken Smeed died January 24, 2018. He was the loving and devoted husband of Beverly Moore Smeed. He was predeceased by his father H. Mortimer Smeed and his mother Helen McKenna Smeed, as well as most of his contemporary relatives and closest friends.
Jim served in the United States Army from 1946 - 1948. Following military service he received his Baccalaureate and Master Degrees and taught high school in Willoughby-Eastlake School District until his retirement from South High School in 1984.
The Brown-Forward Funeral Home will conduct Jim's burial arrangements which, by his request, will be private.
Jim Smeed fully lived and appreciated his long and eventful life, a life that reflected the views of Poet John Donne when he observed:
"When one man dies
one chapter is not torn
out of the book, but
translated into a better language...
one that resonates with life!"
