Jane Wilson

May 23, 1954 — May 25, 2011

JANE R. WILSON nee Rule Age 57 of Shaker Hts., OH, passed away May 25th, 2011. Jane Ellen Rule was born on May 23rd, 1954 in Montgomery, West Virginia to Eugene and Bertha Rule. She and her older sister Genie grew up in the small but beautiful town of Gauley Bridge. Jane met her best friend Sandra Justice in Junior Scouts when she was only in the 7th grade. They were lifelong friends. Jane's early years were spent excelling in school and watching sports, particularly football, with her "daddy," a one time double varsity athlete at Virginia Tech University. She loved sports and spent many a night rooting for the underdog, just like he did. Jane was accepted to Wake Forest University, but returned home after the death of her father. She transferred to West Virginia University to be closer to home. Lucky for Stephen because there she met her future husband David Lynn Wilson. After graduating Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor's of chemistry Jane married Dave and joined him at Penn State University. They then moved again to Texas for secondary education. While in Texas, Jane and Dave made two wonderful friends, Paul and Carol Munch. They spent several years together swimming in the Gulf, laying out on the beach and sailing on a jointly owned sailboat, a Hobie Cat. It was during this time that Jane became pregnant with her only son Stephen. On May 19th, 1983 Stephen was born in Galveston, Texas after a grueling labor. At the time, they did not believe the doctors who said Stephen would grow to be nearly 6'5". Also while in Texas, Jane earned her pharmacy degree from University of Huston. Jane enjoyed her time working as a pharmacist. The next phase of Jane's life was spent traveling. She and her family moved to New Jersey, then to Germany, back to New Jersey and finally ended up in Shaker Heights, Ohio all in the course of about 5 years. Time in Europe was well spent. They made several trips to points across Europe, including France, Germany, and Switzerland. She even skied in the Austrian Alps. During their second stint in New Jersey, Jane had brain surgery that left her paralyzed for several days, crippled her short term memory, and left her unable to continue working as a pharmacist. It was a crushing blow to such a smart young woman. That and subsequent surgeries made living difficult, but through her faith in Jesus, commitment to her Church and a little help from her beloved cat, Meow, Jane was able to live the rest of her life with dignity and purpose. She was Stephen's greatest supporter, cheering at his sporting events and patiently listening to music blaring from the third floor. She worked as a volunteer at University Hospital's gift shop, delivering flowers to patients. Just ask any of her caretakers at Hospice, where she spent the last months of her life, and you'll get a sense of what a truly remarkable and kind person she was. Her grace and perseverance will remain with all who knew her, thank you Jane for blessing us all. Jane was the beloved mother of Stephen R. Wilson Alexandrea "Ali"" of Baton Rouge, LA and dear sister of Genie Finke John of Waynesboro, VA. The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in her name to The Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 E.185th St., Cleveland, OH 44119 or The Church of The Saviour, 2537 Lee Rd., Cleveland Hts., OH 44118 where a Funeral Service will be held, Thursday, June 2nd at 4 PM. Interment will be Friday, June 3rd, at 3 pm, in the Rest Lawn Memory Garden of Ansted, West Virginia.
