Jean Francis Miller Latimer. Daughter of Stella Burke Miller of Peshtigo, WI and Cloyd Weaver Miller of Goshen, IN. Born in Cleveland at St. Luke's Hospital on March 4, 1911. Attended Cleveland Heights public schools, then from grades 8th to 12th Hathaway Brown School on East 97th St. in Cleveland, then graduated from Hathaway Brown in Shaker Heights in 1929. Attended and graduated from Smith College in Northampton, MA, in 1933. Lifetime interest in camping through the Girl Scouts, the Aloha Camps in Vermont and the Smith Outing Club, where Latimer served as president. In Cleveland, Latimer served as president of the Cleveland Girl Scout Council in 1962 to 1963 and continued as president of the then newly formed Lake Erie Girl Scout Council in 1964-1965, including Cleveland and Mentor. Served on Finance Committee for the Girl Scouts from 1965-1990. Was active on the History Committee through 2002. Was honored by the Girl Scouts of the United States in 2004 for 80 years in Girl Scouting. Received her 80 year Gold Pin in recognition of service of exceptional quality. Honored, again in 2011, for 100th Birthday, and commitment to serving over the years.
Four children, Peter Dana (1990); Peggy Jean Howell of Dothan, AL (2005); Harold Latimer of Cleveland, OH and Patricia Latimer of Cleveland, OH. Husband of 64 years, Vernon Straight Latimer (1999). Grandchildren Lorna Jean Gilliland (Eric); and Cheney Hibschman (William).
Life member of Girl Scouts of America and the Alumnae Association of Smith College. Long-time member of Country Forum of Chagrin Falls, OH, Three Graces Book Club, Cleveland Skating Club, and the Orange Senior Center.
