Jean Sheetz Greiner

Jean Sterner Sheetz Greiner, 92, of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, died Wednesday, March 10, 2021. Born in 1928 in Culver City California, Jean was raised by her mother, Rebecca Adams Nelson and stepfather Paul Nelson along with her brother, Tom, and sister Margaret in Menomonie, Wisconsin.

Jean graduated from Stout University with a degree in Home Economics. Upon graduating, she taught junior high students before joining United Airlines as a stewardess. Based in New York City, Jean met Richard Sheetz on a blind date. The two were married and devoted to each other throughout their 43 years of marriage. The couple settled in Shaker Heights, Ohio where they raised their five daughters Christine Wasson (Paul), Becky Briggs (Steve), Laura Bryan (Stuart), Sarah Lavell (Pat), and Connie Searby (Ned).

Jean loved her family and cherished the moments they spent together, from holiday celebrations to time spent in Avalon, NJ and on Sanibel Island, Florida. She delighted in sharing beach time with her family and was known for her uncanny ability to find prized shells while walking the beach.

With her generous spirit and beautiful smile, Jean loved to be connected with others, be it through The Junior League of Cleveland, St. Paul’s Church, The Shaker Lakes Garden Club, Twenty First Century Club, and her bridge and sewing groups. Jean was loved by many, including friends of her daughters’ with whom she spent many an evening laughing and telling stories around the legendary kitchen table.

In 2000, Jean married Richard Greiner (DG) and shared 12 happy years together. Jean was beloved by DG’s family and she treasured their companionship.

Jean is survived by her five daughters, five devoted sons in law,  seventeen adoring grandchildren; Jennifer Wasson, Courtney Wasson Smith, Charles Wasson; Michael, David and Meredith Briggs; Richard, Ned, Tom and Clay Bryan; Alex, Margot and Camille Lavell; Will, Marian, Halle and Lauren Searby and six great grandchildren; Nicholas and Benjamin Smith; Stuart, Virginia, George and Jack Bryan.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to all the caregivers at Crane House who were by her side during the past year through COVID-19 restrictions. We will be forever thankful for their care of our mother.
